Rooted In Health Coffee Talk: No Fear Friday

No Fear Friday. Only you can give fear power. We are currently in a time when it is very easy to feel fear. We fear for our futures. We fear for our friends and loved ones affected by Covid 19. We fear for those on the front lines. We can’t pretend the fear doesn’t exist. We can’t sweep it aside. But we can make the decision to break up with fear. To stand strong and not let the fear own us.

It is easier to stand up to fear when you join together and can feel confident knowing that you are not alone in the fight. We called on our community to come together and create this video to Francesca Battistelli’s The Breakup Song. So please listen in, join us and break up with fear. We all feel fear right now, but we can’t allow that fear to take over. Hope and love will win.

Rooted in Health Coffee Talk: Staying Rooted

We are back with our weekly coffee talk… this time coming at you via Zoom! We wanted to take a moment to thank all of you. We are so grateful for all of those on the front line keeping us protected every day as well of all of those who are choosing to stay home, making sacrifices to protect each other and especially to help protect our healthcare workers who are out there making sacrifices for us every day!

What can we do to stay rooted during this difficult time? We invite you to join our Rooted in Health community, whether it be through membership, joining our subscription list or even just following along on our social media pages. We are here to help you keep your bodies moving and to keep your minds healthy as we navigate these tough times together.

So stay safe. Stay healthy. Keep moving. And remember we are here to help. We are all stronger together.

XOXO,

Lauren & Deb

Rooted in Health Spotlight: Kick Corona Challenge

Today we talk to Henry James and Lily Schur, high school students at Shepaug Valley High School. Faced with sudden school shut down, canceled events activities including sports, school plays and senior project activities they decided to turn things around. Rather than give into feelings of sadness or fear, Lily and Henry joined together with a mission to flood social media feeds with positive messages and hope.

Each day, a challenge is posted on their instagram page @kickcoronachallenge. Their 300+(and growing!) followers include Shepaug students, teachers, community members and even friends from “rival” high schools. Followers are encouraged to post pictures completing the day’s challenge, tasks which have included baking, working out and most recently posting a funny meme.

The response has been amazing, with hundreds of posts, featuring smiling faces, competitive messages and creativity. Make sure to follow @kickcoronachallenge to join Henry and Lily in spreading positivity and conquering feelings of disconnectedness as we navigate the new world of “social distancing”.

Rooted in Health Coffee Talk: Powerful Immune “To-dos”

Okay, we have to talk about it. Its everywhere. The virus. Our lives have been drastically uprooted in many cases. We are suddenly faced with a lot of uncertainty and even a little bit of fear. In times like these it is important to remember what we do have control over! Here are four simple things you can do right now to make sure your immune system is strong.

  • keep a positive outlook
  • drink water… at least half your body weight in ounces
  • exercise 20 minutes a day
  • sleep

We are here for you! Maintaining your healthy habits is so essential now both physically and mentally. Our dynamic may be shifting as we all work together to #flattenthecurve but even if we can’t physically be together we are confident our Rooted in Health community will remain a source of strength and support for each other. We will get through this and perhaps come out even stronger.

Rooted In Health Coffee Talk: Energy and Depleted Energy

We think a lot about our physical energy. When we are really dragging vs those days when we bounce out of bed ready to go. But what about the energy that fills our souls? Those activities or moments that really fill our souls vs those that deplete us, leaving us feeling empty and drained.

So what fills your soul? What energizes you, leaves you ready to take on the world? Maybe it is quality time spent with loved ones, a hike through the woods, an impromptu dance party in your living room.

And just as importantly what depletes you? This may be different for everyone. And it may be different for you, in different seasons of your life. What may energize you, may become the very thing that depletes you at other times.

Our challenge to you is this: over the course of the next few days pay close attention to your energy levels, your level of contentment, happiness. Look for patterns as to what makes you really shine, versus those activities that seem to leave you feeling empty, sad. What changes in your life can you make to ensure that you are protecting that energy within?

You got to let your soul shine!
